ABB has realigned its standard low voltage AC motor range into two main groups, general purpose motors and process performance motors, to help users select the right motors for their use. applications

ABB has realigned its standard low voltage AC motor range into two main groups, general purpose motors and process performance motors, to help users select the right motors for their applications ABB will continue to have a complete motor offer with a full range of motors for hazardous areas, marine and several special applications, such as water cooled motors, roller table motors, permanent magnet motors and high speed motors

"The intention is to re-position our motor offer to enable customers, whether OEMs, end users or distributors, to quickly and easily select the best motor for an application," says Steve Ruddell, general manager, drives and motors.

"The new descriptive product names reflect the two main segments of the market and will help guide users through our motor range, which is very extensive." ABB's process performance motor is engineered to meet the most demanding applications found in process industries such as chemical, oil and gas, pulp and paper, water treatment, food and beverage, metals and building materials.

These motors use the best materials and construction methods to achieve the highest quality and reliability, and a possible operating life of over 30 years.

The motor design is highly adaptable to allow rapid customisation to even the most demanding of industry specifications.

The motors meet the EFF1 energy efficiency classification.

ABB's process performance motors are available in cast iron and aluminum frames; IEC frame sizes 112-400, 4 to 710kW.

ABB's general purpose motors are designed for general OEM applications.

These motors also benefit from high build quality and are available with all of the features needed by the OEM market and can be easily modified to meet most specifications.

The motors meet the EFF2 energy efficiency classification, with EFF1 available as an option.

"Dividing our motor range into two main segments based on the intended usage will make more sense for the end user," explains Ruddell.

"This will give a starting point, from which users can move on and refine their specification." Both groups of motors, both Process Performance and General Purpose, are readily available from global central stock locations and local distributors.

ABB's general purpose motors range includes standard motors in aluminum frame, IEC sizes 56 - 280, 0.06 to 95kW; standard motors in steel frame, IEC sizes 250 - 400; 75 to 630kW; standard motors in cast iron frame, IEC sizes 71 - 355; 0.25 to 250kW; open drip proof motors, IEC sizes 250 - 400; 75 to 800kW; brake motors, IEC sizes 63 - 160; 0.055 to 22kW; single-phase motors, IEC sizes 56 - 100; 0.065 to 2.2kW; and integral motors, IEC sizes 71 - 100; 0.37 to 2.2kW.
