High speed robot speeds up moulding
deflashing
The latest in high speed, six-axis robots will be demonstrating handling, sprue cutting and deflashing of injection-moulded parts at Interplas 2002.
ABB, the global technology company and leader in robot-based automation, launches its fastest ever 6-axis production robot, the IRB 140T (Turbo), at the Interplas 2002 Exhibition (Stand 5002) A notable feature of the demonstration on the stand is handling, sprue cutting and deflashing of injection-moulded parts

Injection moulder installs painting robots
Plastic injection moulding experts Rosti (Scotland), based in Larkhall near Glasgow, installed its first ABB paint robots in 1994 to evaluate their merits against manual spraying.
The IRB 140T builds on from the highly successful and well-established IRB 140, which already boasts one of the fastest cycle times of any articulated arm robot and an industry-leading payload - for its size - of 5kg.
The new IRB 140T is even faster, in fact 10 per cent faster, having been timed at a mere 0.77s to complete a defined work cycle of 25 x 300 x 25mm (X/Y base co-ordinates).
As well as its breathtaking speed of operation, ABB's newest development incorporates all the user benefits which have made the IRB 140 such an industry favourite - allying a very compact six-axis design to a unique combination of fast acceleration, large working area and high payload.

The IRB 140T is suitable for a wide range of applications such as machine tending, picking, materials handling, assembly and cutting and trimming and gives increased customer value through the sheer speed of its operation.
The IRB 140T can be floor, wall or ceiling mounted, allowing for greater flexibility in arranging the layout of the production line and can be supplied in a wide range of configurations including a standard version, sealed version (IP67) and clean room version (Clean Room 10 standard).
ABB has supplied 100,000 robots to industry (and by doing so becoming the becoming the first company in the world to reach the milestone), and some 15,000 robots to the plastics industry, a success highlighted by the incorporation of ABB robots into the Hi-Tech Automation demonstration at Interplas (Stand 5218), and also on the stand of robot systems integrator, Geku (Stand 5242).
ABB has recently established a firm partnership with both Hi-Tech Automation and Geko and ABB robots will feature in both companies live stand demonstrations.
The Hi-Tech demonstration will show a manufacturing cell incorporating both a beam robot and an ABB 6-axis robot and live demonstrations of moulding and deflashing.
Geku's live demonstration will also incorporate a beam robot and ABB 6-axis IRB 140 robot and will show the manufacture of a plastic bottle opener.
ABB's IRB 140 robot will be seen assembling the key ring chain to the plastic-moulded part.
All bottle openers produced on stand will be given to visitors as souvenirs. Request a free brochure from ABB Robotics ...
