Shelf robot saves foundry space

With a reach up to 1m below the foot and a payload of 30kg, a robot is particularly suited to limited space applications, as is often found in the foundry environment.

ABB, the global power and automation technologies group, introduces the IRB 4500S - the newest version of the highly successful IRB 4400 series robot With a reach up to 1m below the foot and a payload of 30kg, it is particularly suited to applications where space is at a minimum, as is often found in the foundry environment

Following ABB's proven, successful formula, the IRB 4500S is available in an optional FoundryPlus version with IP 67 protection of the complete robot, to service a number of applications within foundries and other harsh environments such as machine tending, die-casting operations, core handling, cleaning and spraying.

The rigid, well balanced design, which complements the patented TrueMove function, provides smooth and fast movement throughout the whole working range.

This ensures very high quality in demanding routines, such as cutting applications.

In the same vein, rapid manoeuvrability makes the IRB 4450S perfectly matched for applications where speed and flexibility are important.

The IRB 4450S is also perfect where minimal maintenance and high 'up' times are essential.

The robust, rigid construction means long intervals between routine maintenance.

Balanced steel arms with double bearing joints, and the use of maintenance-free gearboxes and cabling, contribute to the very highest levels of reliability.

Last but not least, the drive train is optimised to give high torque with low power consumption, for very economic operation.

Extensive communication capabilities include serial links, network interfaces, PLC, remote I/O and field bus interfaces.

This makes for easy integration in small manufacturing cells as well as large scale foundry automation systems.

The IRB 4450S is based on ABB's high-volume IRB 4400 series conventional, floor-mounted industrial robots.

With almost 10,000 units sold to date, the IRB 4400 has proven its superior performance and robustness to foundry customers around the world. Request a free brochure from ABB Robotics ...
