Contract electronics manufacture in Wales
Electronics manufacturing services provider TTems - a subsidiary of global electronics manufacturing company TT electronics - is a UK-owned, contract electronics manufacturer.
As many of ABEA's customers are at the high end of the technology market the boards are becoming more complex and densely populated.
To ensure the company keeps ahead of its competitors they have enhanced their capabilities in both PCB layout and RF technology.
The company has invested in Viscom AOI machines and the associated board-handling equipment to enable it to carry out sophisticated optical inspection.
In addition to checking for component presence and polarity, the new equipment will inspect solder joint quality.
The investment in this equipment will aid both SMT and finished product prior to test.
To enhance its BGA and Micro BGA capabilities ABEA has also purchased a Metcal and CSP system together with an Ersascope system which enables the company to re-work and optically inspect the quality and solderability of many of its highly integrated packages.
The third element of the investment programme is the enhancement of ABEA's RF skills.
In response to a growing number of customer requests, it has recruited and trained a team of six engineers and technicians, which now allows it to offer end-to-end skills in the manufacture and test of modern RF products.
One of the first projects to benefit from this new level of expertise is the manufacture of test equipment for third-generation mobile phone systems.
AB Electronic Assemblies is part of TT electronics plc and together with its sister company is the largest UK owned contract manufacturer, with around 20 years experience in the industry.
Its automated high-speed surface-mount lines are complemented by comprehensive in-circuit and functional test.
Its customer support through PCB layout, design for manufacture, NPI and prototyping has optimised it's value engineering and helped win new contracts.
