A large size injection unit, charging up to 2853g of polystyrene, will be demonstrated on a 5000kN injection moulder at the forthcoming K 2007 exhibition in Germany.

On its 1,400m2 at the K 2007 show, Arburg will show for the first time, its Allrounder 920 S injection moulding machine with a clamping force of 5,000kN and large, size 4600 injection unit Arburg plans to show nine nine exhibits altogether

* Allrounder 920 S - the Allrounder 920 S' large, size 4600 injection unit has a maximum shot weight of 2583g of polystyrene.

The 4600 injection unit can can also be used on the Allrounder 820 S, compared to the previous largest 3200 size injection unit with a maximum shot weight of 1860g of polystyrene.

The larger injection unit enables the large Allrounders to mould larger parts, increase cavity numbers and better injection performance.

* Electrical Alldrive range expanded - Arburg has expanded its range of Allrounder A machines.

Michael Hehl, managing partner and spokesperson for the Arburg management, described the innovations and the associated benefits: "New features include larger installation dimensions for larger and more complex moulds and automatic, adaptive clamping force control for higher part quality.

The safety guard, which is open at the top, has been enlarged at the rear of the machine, providing not only more space for cooling and electrical connections to the mould, but also allowing more comfortable mould changes." He added: "Moreover, the small 70 size injection unit is now also available for the Allrounder A, for the production of small and micro components." An example of the larger installation dimensions is the new Allrounder 470 A machine size with a clamping force of 1,000kN and a distance between tie bars of 470mm x 470mm.

This Alldrive will be shown as a two-component machine with an LSR/thermoplastics application.

The production of small parts with the new, small, size 70 injection unit will be demonstrated by Arburg on the Allrounder 370 A with a clamping force of 600kN, integrated in a production cell.

An Allrounder 520 A with a clamping force of 1,500kN will process a medical product, while the largest Allrounder 570 A, with a clamping force of 2,000kN, will form part of a complex system for an IML application in the packaging sector.

Producing a LED light strip in a single production step - as an applications technology highlight, Arburg will demonstrate the production of a fully functioning LED light strip in a single working step on a three-component Allrounder.

TA special conductive plastics and the encapsulation of a highly-sensitive LED component make this pocess possible.

This application is a joint project between Arburg, Oechsler and other partners.

The exhibit clearly demonstrates how knowledge can be combined through close cooperation between specialists from various fields in order to create innovative products.

A further example for this is also the joint research project between Arburg and the chair of plastics technology at the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg: the manufacture of a self-lubricating gear wheel using the two-component injection moulding process, which will be shown at the University's Stand B 49 in Hall 12.

* Integrated assembly and quality assurance - automated assembly will be demonstrated by means of a production cell built around an Allrounder 920 S with a vertical Multilift V.

Five independent components of a folding crate will be produced in a single cycle, removed by a robotic system and fully assembled.

The finished crate will then be folded together and stacked.

During the production of coil shells on an Allrounder 370 A, the moulded parts will be removed by a horizontal Multilift H robotic system, conveyed past a camera for visual monitoring and finally set down, separated by cavity, via a tubular system.

* 'Golden Edition' for high-quality moulded parts - the Allrounder 720 S Golden Edition will be producing an inhaler cap on a 32-cavity mould.

This high-quality technical component features two film hinges and will show the high performance and flexibility of the Allrounder Golden Edition in everyday use.

In keeping with the new annual motto 'Allrounder International', Arburg will surprise visitors with a new stand and communication concept at the K 2007.

Many more treats will also be on show at the Arburg Stand A13 in Hall 13 in terms of machines, control systems and applications.

* Arburg at K 2007, Dusseldorf, Germany, October 24-31, Hall 13, Stand A13.
