2D code reader facilitates parts
traceability
Directly applied marks reader facilitates traceability in part manufacturing and assembly where parts need to be individually identified for quality compliance and production control.
Absolute Vision, an independent systems integrator specialising in two-dimensional (2D) code reading solutions, today launches the new Directly Applied Marks (DAM) reader to facilitate traceability in part manufacturing and assembly It can be used in any manufacturing area where parts need to be individually identified for quality compliance and production control

2D code-readers offer a scalable solution
2D code-readers offer a scalable solution that enables easy transition from 1D to 2D codes, and excellent integration with third party systems.
Easy migration to 2D code reading
A brand new range of 2D code reading products will provide an inexpensive solution for businesses to migrate from the existing less robust 1D barcode methods
The DAM 2D code reader from Absolute Vision is a compact, neatly designed unit with a height of just 125mm, in a sealed alloy IP64 housing.
It can be used in harsh industrial environments unaffected by dirt, dust and moisture spray.
This completely finished reader combines imager, lens, lighting and communications to offer users true 'plug and read' capability.

Mouse-shaped device reads 2D codes on parts
In a new approach to the reading of 2D codes, a hand-held 'mouse' device can be used for 'on-the-spot' checking of information encoded on parts during a manufacturing process.
Hand-held code-reader aids part tracking
Hand-held multi-symbology code-reader aids remote parts tracking, mobile data integration and quality control in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Richard Laight, co-director of Absolute Vision, explains: "Historically, manufacturing companies would keep components in one bin or tray that would be identified with a 'job control card'.
Once the component is taken out of the bin and placed in a machine or assembly, it is separated from the card, and could become a 'quality escape'.
Use of 2D Data Matrix coding on every part ensures that the part and the processes it has gone through can be traced - through manufacturing, assembly, right through to end-user requirements for spare parts replacement." The DAM reader has been designed to read directly applied marks from ink-jet, electro-chemical etching, labels, and in particular low-contrast marks such as those that are laser-etched onto metal.
A pure white light source ensures a perfect read whatever the colour of the background.
High quality images are achieved by CCD (charge-coupled device) image technology.
Reading can be done from any flat or cylindrical surface, from rough to highly-polished, including metal, plastic and paper surfaces.
The DAM reader uses Absolute Vision's MedusaLite graphical user interface (GUI) and includes near real-time video imaging.
Based on Absolute Vision's robust Medusa code-reading software the reader supports a range of error correction systems including Data Matrix, ISO 16022, square and rectangular formats, ECC200, 0-140, white on black, and black on white.
Readable cell size is from 0.17mm.
The Medusa software supports an extensive list of different methods of data integration.
Absolute Vision is an industrial vision systems integrator specialising in products and services connected with the reading of two-dimensional (2D) codes.
2D Data Matrix is a square symbol of varying densities.
It has now been adopted in many industries and is quickly becoming the standard marking technology due to its reliability and the robustness of its reading capability.
Absolute Vision is working towards Investors in People and ISO 9001:2000 accreditations; the company is a member of Solihull Chamber of Commerce and Industry, UK.
