Instead of having to purchase a camera, lens, reader and display unit, users can obtain excellent 2D code image quality and consistent results from one 2D code reader.

Absolute Vision, a specialist in two-dimensional (2D) code reading solutions, has announced the introduction of the IDCoder, a new high performance, fully integrated 2D code reader with optional plug-in display modules Containing the hardware, software and lighting needed to read directly applied 2D codes under demanding factory floor conditions, the IDCoder delivers world-class reading performance on dot peen marks, even those marked on used parts which have become degraded by use in the field

Commenting on the new product, Charlie Plain-Jones, European sales manager at Absolute Vision, explained: "The IDCoder offers a complete package that ensures full traceability of new and used parts for any organisation involved in the manufacturing of critical components".

"Rather than having to purchase a camera, lens, reader and display unit, users can obtain excellent image quality and consistent results from this single product".

"The inclusion of new software controlled lighting options and the exclusion of ambient light means readings can be taken from parts made from a variety of materials, even those with a highly reflective surface, which can prove challenging for some other readers." The advanced imaging hardware of the IDCoder is contained within a rugged desktop head and is a natural complement to the existing range of 2D Data Matrix readers from Absolute Vision.

In addition it has a unique location system for the imaging head, which has been designed to further enhance reading through improved operator ergonomics, even where access is restricted.

The IDCoder has the ability to display real time images of the marks being read by using an optional plug-in solid-state display unit.

These images can easily be digitised, stored and used in reports and support documentation.

A second optional plug-in module has a two-line text display to indicate directly the data contained within the code just read.

Uniquely, the IDCoder allows both units to be plugged in at the same time giving the full advantage of data display to the operator without the need for a cumbersome VDU on a crowded workstation.

The unit, which has a footprint similar to that of a mouse mat, weighs 2.6kg, and operates under Windows XP/2000.

* About Absolute Vision - Absolute Vision is a specialist developer of 2D code reading and machine vision solutions.

2D Data Matrix is a square or rectangular array of dotes or cells that stores information in 2D.

It has now been adopted in many industries and is quickly becoming the standard marking technology due to its ability to hold more information in a smaller space and the robustness of its reading capability.

Products include innovative stand-alone and hand-held readers, embedded OEM solutions and software data integration.

Absolute Vision was acquired by global industrial marking equipment supplier Edward Pryor and Son, in October 2003.
