2D code readers used in production line
A 2D code reading can be suspended on a spring-loaded counterbalance at any point on a manufacturing production line as a UK diesel engine maker is now doing, using six of them.
Absolute Vision, the specialist developer of two-dimensional (2D) code reading and machine vision solutions, has announced an addition to its product range - the Workstation DataMouse.
This reader has all the technical specifications of its proven DataMouse reader but can be suspended on a spring-loaded counterbalance at any point on a manufacturing production line.
Perkins Engines Company Limited, the Peterborough based diesel engine manufacturer has already installed six Workstation DataMice to supplement its existing installation of fixed Medusa Pro readers.
James Baker, a manufacturing systems engineer of Perkins explained: "The introduction of the Absolute Vision Workstation DataMouse has enabled Perkins Engines to improve current assembly processes using 'In Process Verification' (IPV) methodology, thus helping to deliver enhanced manufacturing quality and component traceability.
Details taken from these components using the DataMouse can be used to tune/calibrate our engine range to meet the customer needs and expectations.
The Workstation DataMouse enables us to achieve a high level of system flexibility without compromising on data integrity or process robustness." Charlie Plain-Jones, sales manager at Absolute Vision, explained: "This latest product has been developed in response to customer demand and feedback.
Quality and efficiency are key factors in the success of an automated production line.
Replacing a conventional hand held scanner that can be misplaced or dropped, with a light weight, easier to use reader, which is immediately accessible, makes life easier for the operatives without compromising on the production standards.
The work surface is kept totally clear of reader, cables or docking station and the feather light reader is unencumbered by the weight, or cost of batteries." * About Absolute Vision - Absolute Vision is a specialist developer of two-dimensional (2D) code reading and machine vision solutions.
Products include innovative stand-alone and hand-held readers, embedded OEM solutions and software data integration.
2D Data Matrix is a square or rectangular array of dots or cells that stores information in two dimensions (2D).
It has now been adopted in many industries and is quickly becoming the standard marking technology due to its ability to hold more information in a smaller space and the robustness of its reading capability.
Absolute Vision was acquired by global industrial marking equipment supplier, Edward Pryor and Son, in October 2003.
In January 2006 an exclusive European wide distributor agreement with fluid X was signed, for the sales and support of all of Absolute Vision's biotechnology code-reading products.
