Possible application areas are, for example, the browser operation of abas ERP, product catalog, Web Shop, sales order tracking, service processing, customer information system, etc Web Services offer great potential: experts expect IT costs to reduce considerably and integration of applications to be significantly simplified.
Also many companies hope that Web Services will bring advantages.
In this way Web Services can provide solutions in order to integrate existing internal and company-wide applications and to optimize business processes.
Web Services in practice using warranty processing as an example By using the Web Service Technology the abas Business Software creates a bridge between two available systems: the warranty processing for an abas user needs to be extended by the functionality of the available CAD supported catalog browser.
Both systems are Web Applications, each application is operated by a different software company.
The CAD application has no access to the confidential data of the user company, with exception to the product plan.
The warranty processing is a solution based on abas ERP and accesses customer data.
Neither abas ERP nor the warranty processing system is to be customized.
The solution: a Web Service is created as an interface between both systems.
Both software providers developed an interface description via WSDL (Web Service Description Language) with which a Web Service could be switched before the warranty application.
The Web Service takes on the product information and passes it on to the application.
At the same time the manufacturer of the CAD application runs a 'client' also using the WSDL, which transfers the products selected by the CAD application user to the Web Service of the abas Business Software.
In this manner both software packages were linked to each other with little coordination and programming effort.
The application of the abas Business Software using Linux, which presents a very attractive alternative in the server as well as in the client area, will be a further highlight.
Version 2004 of abas Business Software will be presented at SYSTEMS with many enhancements in the individual functional areas.
ABAS introduces innovations in production/PPC, accounting and the interfaces.
Final costing, scheduling, cost accounting, EDI as well as financial accounting and fixed asset accounting among others were enhanced.
