System helps get a fast start in RFID tagging

An Accu-Sort Europe product story

An 'entry-level' kit has been introduced for people looking to experiment with RFID technology or do an initial pilot while they are beginning to learn about RFID for compliance.

Based on the FAST Suite system architecture installed in more than 400 locations worldwide, FAST Tag Start offers an all-in-one product for scale-up and compliance needs.

"FAST Tag Start is our entry-level kit for people looking to experiment with RFID technology or do an initial pilot while they are beginning to learn about RFID for compliance," said Mike Kuhno, RFID solutions specialist with Accu-Sort.

The baseline configuration offers a combination of FAST Tag software and an 'all-in-one' reader with antenna.

The system is designed for customers who want to understand the technology before entering the pilot phase.

In that system, tags are presented by hand to the FAST Tag Start reader.

The user presses a hotkey the customer has assigned to a product and the system encodes the tag.

If the encoding is successful, the user manually places the tag on the product.

A second configuration, designed for piloting compliance with retailer mandates, adds a desktop printer to the baseline software and hardware configuration.

This second system allows customers to print and encode tags with the ability to do overstrikes for bad tags.

For good tags, FAST Tag Start will print the EPC Global logo and human-readable data, including the value of the tag and its encoding.

Users hit one of the assigned hotkeys for their SKUs and the system will encode and print the tag.

Both configurations offer an optional cordless laser scan gun that allows users to scan product bar codes instead of using a hotkey.

Scanning will initiate the encoding of the tag and the printing of the label if appropriate.

FAST Tag Start comes complete with software, hardware and tags.

Users can load the FAST Tag software onto their own PCs or work with PCs supplied by Accu-Sort.

FAST Tag Start is based on FAST Tag Mobile, which offers a complete all-in one RFID solution to meet current industry compliance needs for hand applying tags on cartons and pallets.

It includes a user friendly touch screen interface for controlling and managing the RFID-enabled desktop printer, including the generation and allocation of EPC code serial numbers.

The system offers an optional cordless laser scan gun and is housed on a rugged battery-operated mobile cart for ease of deployment throughout a facility.

FAST Tag Mobile is a part of Accu-Sort's FAST Suite of auto ID products.

This solution is part of Accu-Sort's 'Tag-to-Ship' centralized system architecture, which allows it to be seamlessly integrated with existing data management infrastructure through Accu-Sort's FAST Tag Data Server solution, making it scalable as needs grow in the future.

To date, Accu-Sort has installed more than 400 FAST (Flexible Automation Solution Tools) systems that provide customers with a high level of confidence in managing their RFID data transfers to their WMS systems.
