Vibratory feeders for multiple part styles

An Action Feed Systems product story

A final decision on the choice of a vibratory feeder should be based on a review of a number of variables, says Action Feed Systems. Check the parameters.

A final decision on the choice of a vibratory feeder should be based on a review of a number of variables.

Discuss them with a feed system supplier.

Specific user requirements should be weighed against the positive and negative aspects of a multiple part feeding system.

Can a parts 'family' be fed in a single feeding system? The answer is, it all depends.

The variables to consider are: 1) Are the parts to be fed of similar size or shape? 2) Can the machine operators make set-up adjustments in tooling and when necessary, air assist settings? 3) Have the production objectives been accurately communicated to the feed system supplier? (for example, is there a change over after running 50 assemblies or 500?) 4) Is there the volume to justify a feed system dedicated to each part? If it is decided that a single vibratory feeder can handle your parts, make sure to stipulate a few common sense guidelines for the design and fabrication of the system.

A 'must have' is a "Feeder Directive" which gives clear written instructions on the settings and adjustments for each part change.

Another reasonable request would be that where adjustments are made, ask the supplier to incorporate definite 'stops' for each setup, so that even someone inexperienced can easily and accurately change from part to part.

Finally, for multiple part feeding, it would be well worth the expense involved in a training session to familiarize the operators in the efficient operation of a new feeding system.
