ACI releases energy-efficient drying unit

An Air Control Industries product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 8, 2008

Air Control Industries (ACI) has introduced the Dri-Line Powerpack, an energy-efficient drying unit for water-cooled extruded and coated products.

Water can be difficult to remove from products following extrusion or coating application.

The Dri-Line Powerpack delivers air at high velocity close to the surface of the product, breaking the surface tension of the retained water and allowing it to be removed effectively.

Utilising high efficiency blowers, the Dri-Line Powerpack delivers warm (80C) clean, contaminant free air at constant volume and pressures.

It runs off a 230V, single phase supply.

A 110V version will soon be available.

The Dri-Line Powerpack can successfully dry extruded products of 5 to 25mm diameter at speeds in excess of 300m/min.

Its drying effectiveness is achieved by passing extruded product through a pair of hinged drying heads that deliver the high velocity airflow directly to the product.

The hinged heads are sprung, allowing any defect/knot to pass through without needing adjusting.

The blowers used in the Powerpack are housed in a sturdy, stainless steel acoustic chamber that keeps noise levels below 85dB(A).

The drying heads are made mainly from stainless steel, but also utilise polyethylene for the main facing plates and plenum chamber end-caps for its hard wearing properties.

ACI claims the Dri-Line Powerpack can achieve energy savings of 10 times compared with compressed air systems.

The company is offering free on-site trials to potential customers in the UK.
