Based on innovative vision technology, a portable CMM has neither wires nor mechanical links between its lightweight probe and its measurement device to measure small and large components.

The French company ActiCM has unveiled its latest line of high-performance and user-friendly Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM) based on innovative vision technology.

The company's new CMM, Actiris350, is a multi-purpose quality control system used to check the dimensional and geometric accuracy of everything from small items to larger sheet metal parts.

Actiris350 is a portable and ergonomic solution, with neither wires nor mechanical links between its lightweight probe and the measurement device.

It is ideal for a wide range of applications across the entire manufacturing spectrum, including metallurgy and metal processing, machine tool production, and the automotive and aerospace industries.

This new technology has already gained widespread recognition in the production sector.

It relies on a combination of advanced photogrammetry and powerful digital image processing.

This unique combination provides a high level of accuracy in obtained results, while increasing the reliability and speed of controls performed on parts, equipment or complex assemblies, both on and off the production line.

Actiris offers the user complete freedom of movement and allows for both automatic and manual alignment setup.

Additional features such as easy installation and automatic calibration survey complete the exceptional performance levels of this 3D measurement device.

The system can be set up and ready for use in less than thirty minutes.

ActiCM's coordinate measurement system, Actiris350 pack, includes an optical head, lightweight ergonomic probe, tripod, and wheeled transportation case.

The complete system weighs only 37.5 lb and is easily portable.

It is generally sold with Delcan's PowerInspect software package that offers advanced functionalities including CAD file importation and a customized part inspection program.

However, Actiris350 is designed on an entirely open platform and, therefore, can also be interfaced with most industrial measurement software packages, providing an added advantage.

The company exhibited at the Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC) in San Jose, CA, USA, in July 2004 and will present its CMMs at Metal Working China in the Shanghai New International Expo Center, October 12-15, 2004.

ActiCM is currently seeking North American distributors.
