Believed to be one of the most user-friendly CNC systems available, machine tool control features a conversational system that requires no CNC experience and can be used as a DRO or a CNC.

Acu-Rite will be showing its intuitive two-/three-axis MillPwr CNC and a new generation 'one size fits all' 200S DRO at the UK's MACH 2008 machine tool exhibition Acu-rite said that the units' cost-effectiveness, user-friendliness and flexibility is ahead of alternative control systems to be displayed at MACH 2008

* User-friendly - Acu-Rite said that its Acu-Rite MillPwr CNC is universally acclaimed as one of the most user-friendly CNC systems available.

MillPwr has a conversational system that requires no previous CNC experience and can be used either as a full-function DRO or as a programmable CNC.

The control offers easy-to-understand operator feedback and everything expected in terms of functionality - from bolt hole/PCD cycles, rectangular, circle pocket and irregular pocket milling, to island and boss features, spiral, ellipse, mirror image, rotate, repeat set-up and 2-/2.5-D contouring as well as tool library, shrinkage scaling, trig and geometry calculator and power editing tools.

MillPwr will be accompanied on the stand by the Acu-Rite 200S DRO - a user-friendly and cost-competitive DRO.

From a single unit, the 200S DRO can be quickly and easily configured for 2- or 3-axis milling, turning or grinding applications.

Acu-Rite told manufacturingtalk.com that the 200S DRO eliminates the 'headache', time and cost often associated with the selection and installation of multiple application-specific DROs.

The intuitive 200S displays all prompts, instructions and help functions as text or graphics on the flat screen 5.7in 320mm x 240mm resolution crystal clear LCD display (instead of traditional LED and VFD display technology).

All standard routines are visible on the screen and graphics guide users through the simple questions.

Operation-specific soft keys reinforce the boast that Acu-Rite systems are the easiest to use in the industry.

* Milling - for milling, the system is supplied as standard with bolt hole pattern calculations for full and partial circles with graphics, zero reset and preset features, tool diameter compensation and near zero warning, for example.

* Turning - for, turning, the system features include taper turning functionality and 16 tool offsets that, when used with the axis lock feature, ensures tool deflection is reduced even under load.

* Grinding and general usage - for grinding and general use applications for the DRO 200S are based around the system's zero reset, linear error compensation, instant radius-to-diameter and inch to mm conversions, as well as absolute/incremental display features.

RS232 port and workpiece probing functionality is provided as standard.

The system is complemented by Acu-Rite precision glass scales that provide accuracies down to +/-1.5 micron, courtesy of their inherent durability and resistance to variations in temperature and humidity.

Position-Trac (also on show) is another market-leading feature of the DRO 200S, allowing operators to accurately and quickly re-establish workpiece zero from any position after a power interruption.

Once power is restored, the DRO reads a line pattern on the glass scale to recall the last known zero.

* Acu-Rite at MACH 2008, NEC, Birmingham, UK, April 21-25, Hall 5, Stand 5011.
