SS switches operate inharsh environments

An Acal TC product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Mar 8, 2006

For operating in harsh-environments, a stainless steel switch powers up to 250V AC and carries a water-resistant rating of IP 67, and a shock resistance rating of IK 07.

A new series of switches, ideal for use in outdoor applications or equipment exposed to wash-downs, is now available from ACAL TC.

The product will be of particular interest for applications such as point of sale (POS) or point of information (POI) terminals, access control and security systems, vandal-protected equipment in public areas or large industrial plants, controller panels for automated machinery, construction machinery, and medical equipment.

With a voltage range of 5V DC to 250V AC and a current range of 0.1-10A, Schurter's new MSM series carries a water-resistant rating of IP 67, and a shock resistance rating of IK 07 making the product ideal for use in environments where it can be subject to heavy use or impact.

The switch can also operate under temperature conditions as low as -25 deg C and as high as 85 deg C.

A flat front construction of only 1.7mm provides a nearly flush mounting to the panel surface, which makes it less conspicuous and therefore less likely to be knocked or battered from the side.

The MSM combines a detachable contact module with a high-grade stainless steel housing and actuator for an exceptionally smooth actuation and quality feel.

Actuation force is 4.5N, and contact travel is only 1mm with a fixed stop and audible click.

Switching action is single-pole, momentary with N O and N C contacts.

The MSM is available with point or ring illumination for applications in dim light, or for visual status indication.

Laser lettering is also available.

Three sizes of the MSM series are available with mounting diameters of 16, 19, and 22mm.

Terminals are quick-connect, and assembly includes pre-wiring of the contact module, which is then snapped onto the actuator housing.
