A claim that its Mircona parting-off and grooving tools is the largest single range currently available from any manufacturer is being made by the UK supplier Advanced Carbide Tooling

A claim that the Mircona parting-off and grooving tools is the largest single range currently available from any manufacturer is made by the UK supplier Advanced Carbide Tooling Ltd This is also supported with the following claims which indicate the validity of a design that has successfully met new challenges and stood the test of time

Using one standard insert, clamp, screw and spring reduces the number of spares that need be stocked.

This ensures interchangeability of one insert to cope with many applications.

The concept was developed nearly 40 years ago of an interchangeable insert used with rigid, reinforced toolholders has remained virtually unchanged, but considerably extended over the years.

The original design has proved to be so successful that the tools have been adopted by many companies machining high performance metals including those for aerospace and petrochemicals applications.

The toolholders feature mechanical top clamps that positively lock inserts into an inclined Vee seat to prevent movement and guarantee positional integrity and repeatable machining accuracy under all conditions.

The inserts can be supplied in an impressive range of cutting geometries, widths, grades and specialised coatings to meet the most demanding requirements.

The range now comprises over 3000 purpose designed toolholders which can be used with more than 2000 insert variations providing a flexibility to cope with the most difficult to machine metals including Waspaloys, Inconels, Titanium and other high temperature or acid resistant materials.

The tools are also versatile enough to cope with a much wider range of machining operations than most other products on the market.

A single tooling set-up can be selected for optimum swarf control and used for parting-off, face grooving, internal grooving, sideways turning, trepanning and annular grooving together with circular interpolating a radius or chamfer.

The original design of the Mircona toolholder concept has proved to be both successful and adaptable.

It has remained virtually unchanged from the early days of unsophisticated production lathes through the evolving generations of NC and CNC machines, coping more than adequately with the increasing speeds, higher cutting forces, changing product material specifications and more demanding surface finish requirements.

Product range development to meet new challenges will also ensure that Mircona tools meet the requirements of production engineers well into the present millennium.
