The new Dieterle SSXA tooling program designed for use with Swiss type CNC sliding head lathes incorporates features designed to save machining time and costs These products, which have proved to be highly successful in Germany, are now available in the UK from Advanced Carbide Tooling Ltd

Cutting widths down to only 0.8mm provide maximum economy and the same toolholder set-up, equipped with appropriate carbide inserts can be used for parting-off, grooving and long turning either with or without chip-controlling geometry.

Indexing of the double sided inserts can be carried out without removing the toolholder from the machine turret.

The clamping screw, which locks into a captive threaded bush in the insert, is on the opposite side to the guide bush giving clear access at all times for the operator.

Even in the event of a broken insert cutting edge, the insert is still indexable due to a positive insert location.

This guarantees full utilisation of both sides of the insert without the need for re-setting, a feature not provided by many competitors.

All inserts and toolholders can be supplied for left and right hand cutting.

Toolholders are available in 8, 10 and 12mm square sizes, all with an overall length dimension of 140mm.

The carbide inserts, which include micrograin sub-strates, can be supplied for threading and specialised form tool operations, with standard 'O' ring groove geometries also being available.

As well as conventional TiCN coating, inserts can also be supplied with the latest multilayered TiAlN coating for maximum cutting speeds and tool life.
