Advanced Dynamics, has installed an integrated Kora-Packmat feeder with autoloader and a Eurokett label applicator at one of the world's largest medical device companies Dedicated to the research, development, and manufacture of orthopaedic products, Stryker Orthopaedics required a system to feed and label instruction booklets for Surgical Simplex P Bone Cement, intended for medical professionals

Instead of opting for two separate machines from two suppliers, the company went for an all-in-one bespoke system from Advanced Dynamics ADL.

Simplex process engineer at Stryker, James Boland, explained why the company chose Advanced Dynamics: "We researched other companies for the project but from our initial conversations Advanced Dynamics gave us the feel good factor.

The company was the only one that dealt with all our queries quickly and confidently and at all stages we were assured that ADL would do what we asked without hesitation and within the time scale we set the firm." Bought in by Stryker's Limerick operation in Ireland, the booklets are unpacked and loaded face-down in to the extended loading system, which feeds the Booklet Feeder on demand.

One booklet at a time is fed by the Booklet Feeder on to a vacuum conveying belt that leaves the back of the book fully exposed for the application of the six-part label set at speeds of up to 40 pieces per minute.

The system is linked to the automated packaging assembly line that completes the remaining steps of the multi-stage packaging process.

Boland commented on the performance of the machine and its ease of use: "The equipment has been running very well.

I can't see a better way of doing it.

The machine is unique because it has the ability to handle all different types of booklets, which means minimum changeover is required.

Also, all tool changing is done manually and adjusted with knobs, so there is no need to take apart and re-assemble parts, which is saving us on time and labour.

As part of the service, the Advanced Dynamics engineers came on site and took us through the operating procedure and after the initial learning curve it became fairly intuitive and it's very easy to teach as well." Stryker Corporation is a leader in the worldwide orthopaedic market.

It provides joint replacements, trauma, spine and micro implant systems and emergency medical equipment.

As well as offering the Kora-Packmat and Eurokett ranges, Bradford-based Advanced Dynamics also offers a range of static management systems, checkweighing equipment and thermoforming machines.

Boland concluded: "If another division in the Stryker Corporation had a similar requirement I would certainly recommend Advanced Dynamics for a personalised service, the best equipment and much more.".
