How to connect a PC to a mixture of signals
Do you ever hold the end of a cable from a sensor and think "I wish I could just plug this into a PC"? A single box now connects up thermocouples, pressure sensors and other transducers to a PC.
Do you ever hold the end of a cable from a sensor and think "I wish I could just plug this into a PC"? Well with the DataShuttle unit, you can.
DataShuttle is such a unique and clever product that some people are amazed to discover that you can hook up thermocouples, pressure sensors and just about any other transducer to a single box - which in turn links directly to a PC to display the results, all at the same time.
Simply attach the sensor cable to the terminal on the DataShuttle and plug the unit into the PC.
Up to twenty signals can be monitored with a single DataShuttle - even more with additional units.
And best of all, the signals can be from all sorts of different sources, which means that you can examine a range of signals and study their real time interrelationships.
DataShuttle has now become even more straightforward to use, thanks to the introduction of the USB port.
Now found on almost all PCs, the USB port has been a revelation for connecting peripherals such as printers and scanners to a PC.
Just plug and unplug them at will, and if you want to attach a whole bunch of peripherals at the same time, just buy a small USB hub at low cost.
But now one of those peripherals could be a DataShuttle, with a whole string of sensors connected to it.
The introduction of USB has inspired some other manufacturers to enter the market for products to connect sensors to PCs.
But be careful.
Not only do these not have the pedigree of DataShuttle, but they won't have the incredible range of signal handling capability.
DataShuttle/USB allows signals from +/-20V to +/-30mV to be mixed and matched with thermocouples and frequency inputs.
What's more, it comes complete with excellent software for display and logging which means you can hook up your sensors to a PC straight out of the box.
As a straight-forward, neat and cost-effective tool, it's in a class of it's own.
Could connecting a mixture of sensors to a PC be made any easier than DataShuttle? Yes, thanks to USB - DataShuttle/USB is supplied and supported in the UK and Ireland by Adept Scientific plc.
