Blowers/exhausters demand non-standard
shafts
Multi-stage centrifugal blowers and exhausters are a standard product range but they called for a standard 2-pole motor (single and three-phase) with options for different lengths of shaft.
The Multi-Stage centrifugal blowers and exhausters from Air Control Industries (ACI) of Chard form part of the company's standard product range but they call for non-standard motors to drive them The performance of ACI's multi-stage units is varied simply by changing the number of dynamically balanced impellers mounted on the motor shaft - easy! However, with the impeller options running from 1 to 10, it calls for non-standard solutions and AEG Electric Motors supplied them

Two speed motors still a viable option
Lafert Electric Motors discusses the development of AC frequency inverters and the benefits of a simple, efficient two speed motor.
ACI needed a supplier that could provide a standard 2-pole motor (single and three-phase) with options for different lengths of shaft - 200mm, 350mm and 500mm.
With shafts of these lengths runout also becomes an important consideration and in this case a TIR (total indicated runout) of just 0.05mm is the maximum acceptable, otherwise shaft/impeller balancing becomes a real problem.
Failure to meet these requirements resulted in unacceptable reject rates with the previous motor supplier.
According to Jason Bean, Manufacturing Director at ACI, AEG was able to meet these build requirements cost effectively with the added bonus of being able to provide European-wide support.
This is typical for many AEG customers requiring non-standard motors up to 315 frame size in commercial quantities.
ACI also benefits from the cURus certification of AEG's motors, having significant and growing sales in North America.
In addition to varying the performance of the Multi-Stages by changing the number of impellers, speed can be varied from the standard 2850 rpm at 50Hz to 5100 rpm by using an inverter to change frequency to 90Hz.
ACI's Multi-Stage centrifugal blowers and exhausters, which offer flow rates up to 850m3/hr and pressures ranging to 150mbar, are employed for such applications as gas meter testing, aeration tanks, pneumatic conveying and glove box extraction systems.
