Forged steel bulkheads clad with Inconel
625
The recently completed overlay cladding of 35 oil pipeline forged high yield carbon steel bulkheads involved depositing their internal surfaces with a 3.5mm coating of Inconel 625.
Arc Energy Resources has completed the overlay cladding of thirty-five oil pipeline bulkheads manufactured by W Maass for the Tweedsmuir Development in the North Sea W Maass (UK), which manufactures special connectors, flanges and other pipeline equipment for oil, petrochemical and process projects around the world, has developed a twelve-year relationship with weld overlay cladding specialist Arc Energy Resources that means the two companies cooperate where corrosion resistance is a vital element in component specifications

Weld overlay and cladding flexibility increased
Arc Energy Resources, a specialist in corrosion and wear resistant weld overlay cladding, is completing a comprehensive equipment refit to increase flexibility and capacity by 25%.
Weld overlay reclaims mould turnover rings
Forged rings that carry moulds in two automatic rollover machines are being reclaimed using weld overlay cladding that matches the materials specification of the original rings.
The most recent example is a contract for 35 pipeline bulkheads destined for the Tweedsmuir Development in the North Sea.
The insulated bulkheads, which consist of inner and outer pipes with 12-18in and 8-14in nominal bore diameters, are designed to maintain the temperature of the fluid in sub-sea pipelines to ensure an uninterrupted flow.
They were manufactured by W Maass from high yield carbon steel forgings and their internal surfaces were clad by Arc Energy with a 3.5mm coating of Inconel 625.
W Maass is also currently designing and manufacturing a special pipe-in-pipe 'Hot Tap Tee' component for the same project, which will allow a future tie-in to the pipeline, should it be required by the operator.
This component will also be fully clad by Arc Energy.
Commenting on the relationship, W Maass managing director David Toone said: "Over the twelve years we have worked with Arc Energy, the quality of their cladding and their service has always been consistently high.
We now source all our weld overlay cladding from them and they in turn cooperate with us on contracts, so when we win they get the cladding order." Arc Energy sales director Alan Brown agreed that the relationship works very well and adds that the two companies developed their partnership before partnerships were fashionable.
