New technology is reducing paperwork and improving productivity for specialist manufacturer of bespoke materials' handling equipment such as trolleys, stillages and production line equipment Since they bought the company in June 2002, managing director Tony Parker and operations director Dave Orme - who both previously worked at Smith's Clocks in Derby - have invested in improvements to several areas of the business

Their efforts are paying off with a steady increase in the number of orders for their unique products.

Computerised systems, a new IT network and Broadband connections complete the latest stage in the company's plans for growth and increased efficiency.

"We have streamlined our processes and reduced the number of paper-based systems," says Parker.

"With technology-based processes such as the one we have for Production Control and Management, it's a lot easier to monitor orders from start to finish.

This means a more efficient service for customers.

Our Broadband connection has helped too as it makes it easier and quicker to transmit large files or to track down specialist materials and suppliers." Parker says the changes over the last 18 months have put the company in an excellent position to expand its client base and increase capacity.

"We have already taken on three Modern Apprentices and hope to be taking on more staff as the business grows." Acres was established over 50 years ago and has built a strong reputation for the design and manufacture of bespoke materials' handling equipment such as trolleys, stillages and production line equipment.

As Tony explains, they are used to challenges, "If you can't find what you need in a catalogue, we'll make it.

Our designers and engineers are very experienced in coming up with ingenious solutions." The company also manufactures high quality specialist products for the horticulture and composting industries including soil processing and sterilising machinery.
