ND Precision Products has invested substantially in six AGIE EDM wire-cutting machines and an AGIE Innovation die sink machine because of their really easy-to-use, menu-driven interface

"Less is more" certainly rings true for all of us as far as the size and weight of our mobile phones is concerned Barnstaple-based ND Precision Products has many years experience of the production of high-quality precision tools for the electronics and connector industries

To satisfy such a demanding market the company has invested substantially in the latest equipment, including six AGIE EDM wire-cutting machines and an AGIE Innovation die sink machine.

"The main drivers for our customers" says Nick Squire, Technical Director, "are speedy delivery and high quality." The continuing pressure to reduce dimensions while increasing functionality in all areas of personal electronics, together with time-to-market expectations that are closer to those traditionally associated with fashion than with engineering, has meant that the company has had to obtain the maximum benefit that every advance in technology has offered.

"We chose AGIE machines because of their really easy-to-use, menu-driven interface," explains Nick, adding that this made operator training much simpler and quicker, enabling the machines to be up and running productively in the shortest possible time.

Another advantage offered by AGIE is the contact management software that ND Precision finds invaluable, displaying up to the minute status information on their control screens.

Working to such tight deadlines maximising productivity is always vital and the company works 24/7 with a night shift four days/week.

Even when the EDM machines are working in "lights out" mode the management can still check progress by logging on from home using the AGIEVision software to view current job status.

To tackle the level of fine detail and the intricate parts that are making up an increasing amount of their workload, ND Precision are planning to use the AGIE Microcut Option with 0.03mm tungsten wire.

The company's ability to continue to adapt to changes in market demands and use the latest technology to provide an enhanced service to their customers has enabled ND Precision to build a strong business, exporting over 60% of production, a major triumph in current economic conditions.
