Direct drives, 5-axis VMC raises productivity
Production 5-axis vertical machining centre combines direct-drive main spindle and axes drives with a choice of automation systems to increase productivity.
The campaign, called Five Drive, was launched in October 2007 and, through a mix of integrated above and below-the-line communications (ie advertising, PR, direct marketing, e-marketing, regional seminars, customer visits to Switzerland etc.), the company will promote the significant productivity and performance benefits and gains that manufacturers can achieve by embracing 5-axis machining.
Says Steve Sylvester, Managing Director at Agie Charmilles : 'Five Drive is a business strategy designed to make UK manufacturers more competitive and help them achieve more.
UK manufacturing's take up of 5-axis machine tool technology lags well behind other markets - ie USA, Europe.
There are clearly some notable exceptions - but for many manufacturers it seems that the leap from current (3-axis) milling machine tool practice to 5-axis machining is too daunting.
'To address this - an important and, probably the most significant, element of the Five Drive campaign is educational - where, through different media and communication strategies, the huge potential (productivity and profitability) of 'one-hit' machining via our Mikron 5-axis machines will be demonstrated and explained in detail to precision manufacturers.
'To help us get over and reinforce this message to customers I am delighted that a number of our preferred partners have become actively involved in the Five Drive campaign - (Open Mind, Camplete, Jemtech, Blaser, System 3R etc.).' The Five Drive campaign focuses on High-Speed and High-Performance, and positional (3 + 2) and simultaneous 5-axis machining.
The campaign, which started in October 2007, will feature also heavily in GF AgieCharmilles' MACH 2008 promotions.
