Wire EDM adds competitive gain
With EDM wire cutting, especially with the Agie cut Evolution and Agie tron Innovation machines, Christian Dunkel ocquired a decisive competitive advantage in jig and fixture manufacture.
The CUT 20 range of machines was recently launched at the EMO Show in September 2007, and R A Wire Erosion's purchase is the first CUT 20 sale in the UK.
Managing director at R A Wire Erosion, Richard Bruce, said: "Our existing wire EDM machines deliver excellent results, but you always have to be able to meet (constantly and without exception) customer demands concerning part quality, delivery and price.
We were getting to the stage where, hand-on-heart, I couldn't be definite or confident about some of the more stringent deadlines we were being asked to hit".

Mach 2000 winners go to the sports
Four lucky companies have won tickets to premier UK sporting events this summer in a competition draw organised by the Agie Charmilles Group at the MACH 2000 exhibition held at the NEC.
Like many small specialist subcontract operations R A Wire Erosion relies heavily on repeat business and word-of-mouth endorsements and testimonials, said GF AgieCharmilles.
Bruce continued: "Our reputation is vital to our success - so when I heard about the new CUT 20 machine with its automatic wire re-thread (AWT) capability (for extended and unattended operations); its ultra-efficient and powerful (IPG-V) generator, fast cutting speeds (250mm2/min) and powerful control - I knew that the machine would help increase our productivity and overall performance, and further build our reputation for quality".
He explained: "Originally I was looking at achieving extra wire capability via a used machine purchase.
However, the functionality of the CUT 20 machine coupled with its introductory promotional price and warranty package - all made the decision to buy a new machine very straightforward indeed".
Other important business benefits affecting (positively) company profitability and cash flow are also evident from the new CUT 20 machine tool investment.
These include the following.
* Lower operating costs of the CUT 20 machine (reduced consumables costs; reduced power/energy costs due to a more efficient generator, etc).
* The 'still favourable' capital allowance tax position relating to capital equipment purchases made before the end of March 2008.
Bruce said he was delighted with the purchase of the CUT 20 machine.
He added that on price and performance he knew that this machine could not be beaten.
* About R A Wire Erosion - R A Wire Erosion Limited is a family business that was established in 1989.
The company employs five people at its West Midlands facility and provides specialist wire EDM services to a diverse range of customers and industries.
The type of work undertaken by the company is complex and includes the manufacture and repair of press tools; extrusion dies used in the rubber and plastics industries and special tooling for steel rolling mills.
Although the work is varied typical tolerances required are in the 10 - 12 micron range and surface finish of >0.25 micron Ra on parts is also expected.
