Die sinking EDM is accurate within 1
micron
A high performance die sinking EDM provides high removal rates, integrated automation capability and precision positioning accuracy within 1 micron.
EDM and Milling machine tool manufacturer GF AgieCharmilles will show for the first time in the UK its Form 2000 high performance die sinking EDM at the MACH 2008 machine tool exhibition The Form 2000, said by the company to be one of the most sophisticated and versatile machines in the company's die-sink range, provides fast and high removal rates, integrated automation capability and excellent precision (positioning accuracy within 1 micron)

EDM wins for racing car component maker
Mannesmann Sachs, a manufacturer of specialist, short run automotive components for Formula 1 cars and prototypes, has invested in the latest Agie EDM machine tools for prototyping and production.
* Medical devices.
* Electrical connectors.
The machine delivers high accuracy and repeatability: super fine surface finishes (0.1 micron Ra) and low electrode wear.
GF AgieCharmilles told manufacturingtalk that the Form 2000 is ideally suited to manufacturers involved in micro-machining or who manufacture parts that exhibit complex micro features.
* New mechanical concept - working in conjunction with Swiss Polytechnic Institutes, the Form 2000 has a machine structure (C-frame) that includes a rigid frame of polymeric material with a fixed work table.
It is ideal for easy loading and unloading of heavy workpieces.
The ergonomics of the machine are further enhanced by the working area being accessible from three sides.
Spheroid cast iron X- (350mm), Y- (250mm) and Z- (350mm) axis, located in the upper part of the machine, are isolated from the loading and mechanical areas of the machine which, as a consequence, limits any accuracy problems associated with heat build-up and thermal drift.
* New generator - the Form 2000 is equipped with the new ISPF (Intelligent Speed Power) generator.
The generator, through its unique design and its ability to create digitally shaped pulses (DSP's), improves machining performance (especially in finishing operations), and delivers exceptional surface finish, a virtual elimination of the recast layer and reduced electrode wear.
High resolution parameters for controlling current and voltage, plus an extremely sensitive servo system optimise machine responsiveness and enable difficult and small internal radii cuts (5 micron) to be machined.
* New control concept - to further increase the appeal of the Form 2000 - the machine can be equipped with either the Charmilles' DP Control or the Agie Agievision 5 Control.
For existing Charmilles EDM and Agie EDM users this choice means that the machine's control is instantly familiar, and negates the need for operator re-training.
* Integrated automation - to optimise the Form 2000's productivity (i e, through unattended operations) - the machine is packed with a number of automated features including electrode changer, pallet changer (optional), optimised work tank fill/drain capability and so on.
The machine's electrode changer is modular (three different options) and can be specified with electrode capacity from 20 to 140 electrodes depending on individual requirements.
The Form 2000 can also be supplied with either a four-, eight- or 12-pallet automatic pallet changer for maximum productivity.
