A-Plant is launching new health and Safety initiatives at Safety and Health Expo.

At the Safety and Health Expo from 22-24 May 2007 on stand number G31at Birmingham's NEC, leading hire company A-Plant is launching several new initiatives and products aimed at improving health and safety The first is a new initiative in support of the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) 'Better Backs' Campaign highlighting the huge range of products to assist with lifting and manual handling now available for hire from A-Plant

In addition, A-Plant is launching an enhanced version of the company's Site Safety Pack featuring a new Dust Supplement focusing on the substantially reduced Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) for Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) exposure introduced in October 2006 by the HSE.

A-Plant will also be promoting the use of the company's Pop-Up platform, the world's smallest scissor lift.

Whatever needs to be lifted on site, A-Plant has a massive range of lifting, materials handling, mechanical and non-mechanical equipment to help, including Vacuum Lifters, Chain Hoists, Stair Climbers and much more.

All of this equipment is designed to help employers and workers avoid serious back or other injuries and prevent potentially costly periods of absence or inactivity.

A-Plant will be featuring two products from the company's comprehensive fleet of lifting products.

The AL-Vac Mantis and Handyman Super systems are mobile battery powered vacuum lifting machines with a maximum load capacity of 160kg.

They are designed to enable effortless lifting of heavy kerbstones, slabs and other concrete products.

The HSE has governed that these materials should be handled and laid mechanically in order to avoid the risk of injury associated with repetitive manual handling of such products.

The comprehensive Site Safety Pack from A-Plant comprises folders, posters, stickers, Hand-Arm Vibration leaflets and an extensive 60-page health and safety handbook.

The new Dust Supplement in the Site Safety Pack has been developed to help protect over 140,000 workers in the UK construction industry exposed to airborne dust containing RCS on a regular basis.

The new WELs set by the HSE are designed to reduce the possibility of these workers contracting the irreversible lung disease, Silicosis.

A-Plant offers an industry-leading range of dust extraction and suppression equipment from Dustcontrol to help contractors to meet the reduced WELs.

The A-Plant equipment complies with COSHH regulations stating that dust should be primarily extracted from the point of its production, with airborne dust cleaning being a secondary back up.

The Pop-Up system is designed for internal use and meets work at height regulations, providing site contractors and their staff with a safe and simple low level access platform for indoor use, replacing the need for ladders and steps.

Its detailed design offers a multitude of special features whilst offering the user varying platform heights.

Pop-Up has been designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with both the European Standard EN280 and the safety requirements of the European Machinery Directive 98/37/EC.
