In light of recent high profile business scandals and failures, new legislation requires companies to maximise their information management for the twenty-first century - this handbook shows how.

As every business knows information in any shape or form is worth its weight in gold and as such needs to be protected at all costs The launch of a new book Information Nation published this month by AIIM (International Association for Enterprise Content Management) is the handbook every manager, director, IT or financial controller should be armed with to do just that

In light of recent high profile business scandals and failures, newly introduced legislation requires companies to maximise their information management for the twenty-first century, with this in mind AIIM has collaborated with the authors on a number of projects and research papers over the last few years, and this book has been produced to assist firms who do not have procedures set in place.

Written by Randolph Kahn, an internationally recognised authority on legal and risk management and Barclay Blair, an author, speaker and consultant specialising in business, policy and management issues relating to information technology, the book helps readers through the minefield of jargon and measures with real life examples to help tailor their own requirements.

"It is not only large organisations that need to sit up and take note but businesses of all sizes as more and more companies transact business and correspond electronically, particularly by email and on the web.

Organisations operate in an increasingly litigious and regulated environment and so it is crucial that they are in control of their information, that they have water-tight policies and procedures for capturing and managing both paper and electronic records and can evidence their actions, weeks, months and even years down the line.

This a complex yet vital issue which businesses need to confront sooner rather than later.

As communication technologies continue to proliferate, information will also continue to grow exponentially.

This makes the challenge even tougher so it's important to tackle the problem now.

In doing so, organisations will begin to see wider benefits in terms of cost, efficiency and customer service delivery which taking control of their information affects, " explains Roger Crumpton, Managing Director of AIIM UK.

The book is broken down into seven key steps to help understand and apply the principles needed to run a more efficient and protected business in this age of e-commerce, storage and accessibility.

"Managing information to support compliance is a monumental challenge for business and IT professionals today.

This book provides straightforward guidelines to help them meet this challenge," comments David Wright of Legato Software.
