Well trained staff give high standards of work, they understand what is important and can be relied upon to do the right things at all times which cuts mistakes and lowers costs.

Too few companies believe in training apprentices today, but Hereford based injection moulding company A K Industries (AKI) is one of them AKI puts its success down to three things - caring for customers, a passionate belief in the power of its people and good financial management

With one apprentice in his third year and another to start training soon, AKI continues to practice what it preaches.

Young apprentices are the future, but what about the other staff? AKI is active there too, with three former operatives gaining recognised qualifications as setters through training at PTL at Telford.

One, Simon Morris, has gone on to complete his City and Guilds qualification and Stuart Landers and Garner Cheetham are following in his footsteps.

The benefits to AKI are clear.

Well trained staff give high standards of work which reflect in excellent customer satisfaction, they understand what is important and can be relied upon to do the right things at all times which cuts mistakes and lowers costs.

When asked whether hard pressed manufacturers can afford this kind of training, joint managing director Allen Green was unequivocal, "We can't afford not to: our people are our lifeblood.".
