Special labelling solves difficult
problem

Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) has provided Tyco Electronics with a cost effective solution to a difficult labelling application, with its Novexx Puma label printer.

Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) has provided Tyco Electronics with a cost effective solution to a difficult labelling application, with its Novexx Puma label printer, fitted with a special applicator The Puma system guarantees a high level of placement accuracy, of a unique T-shaped self-adhesive label at a stepped 90deg angle, on low profile outlet jack modules

The outlet jack modules are a sub-assembly of an electronic device for LAN applications that are sold throughout the world.

Tyco Electronics is the largest supplier of passive components, with approximately 250,000 outlet jack modules being manufactured per annum.

The labels being applied contain pre-printed data and are also overprinted in selected areas by the Puma printer.

Print and apply accuracy at relatively high speeds are key to meeting volume throughput, with the ALS supplied Puma printer providing semi-automatic application.

The pre-printed information on the paper labels is varnished for protection, with unvarnished areas that are printed onto by the ALS Puma printer, with information such as part number, patent references, date code and a wiring colour guide.

Typical throughput is thirty labelled modules per minute.

Paul Bates, Senior Product Engineer at Tyco Electronics is pleased with the performance of the ALS equipment.

"We have been using the ALS system for over a year and it has worked very efficiently in what is quite a difficult task because of the angle of application.

High levels of placement accuracy are crucial and ALS worked closely with us to develop the best solution to meet our requirements." The ALS Puma was chosen by Tyco Electronics on the advice of its packaging expert.

It operates on a stand-alone basis, using near edge print technology to provide fast, reliable label printing.

The ALS Puma semi-automatic label printer and applicator operates at print speeds of 254 mm per second, at a resolution of 300 dpi (12 dots per mm), to produce high quality text, bar codes and logos on labels up to 240 gms in weight.

In addition, the Puma uses thermal transfer ribbons, incorporating a consistent ink layer that in turn provides reliable, high resolution printing even at the highest speeds. Request a free brochure from Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) ...
