High speeds and accuracy were stipulated when Denny Bros began looking for a new label applicator to apply its Fix-a-Form labels to promotional material Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) provided the solution in the form of a high-speed labelling hybrid based on its ALS 350 and ALS 380 applicator and labelling heads

Labeller works continuously in harsh conditions
Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) has launched a new heavy-duty, automatic print and apply labelling solution, the ALX 2038.
Labelling system prints at 300mm/sec
In response to customer demand for increasingly faster 1:1 print and apply labelling, Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) has launched the ALX 924, with a print speed of up to 300mm/second.
The new ALS system provides Denny Bros with the opportunity to apply labels ranging in size from 10mm to 160mm in width, at a rate of up to 100m per minute.
By incorporating ALS's Automatic Product Speed Following (APSF) technology, the unit achieves exceptional levels of accuracy by matching the label dispensing rate to variations in product speed.
It also features web-break detection and memory facilities to enable multiple product lines to be handled quickly and easily.

Pallet printers are stand-alone or integratable
Advanced Labelling Systems Ltd (ALS) has launched the ALS-PL-Series, a new range of cost effective and highly reliable pallet labellers which use thermal direct or transfer print technology.
Labelling products at high speed
ALS produces a high speed, rotary labelling machine, the ALS-R-Series, which produces high quality results in the application of front/back, neck position, multi-panel and wraparound labels.
"The ALS machine manages a wide range of label sizes, although for our purposes we tend to regularly use a 50mm x 80mm standard size," says Barry Denny, Managing Director of Denny Bros.
With over 20 international licensing agreements, the company is famed for its Fix-a-Form labels, which appear on products ranging from wines to medicines.
To maintain this momentum, the company previously applied Fix-a-Form labels to its promotional literature either by hand or via run-of-the-mill applicators.
This all changed eight months ago when the company acquired the high-speed labelling hybrid from ALS, Europe's leading manufacturer of labelling solutions.
By supplying a machine combining the ALS 350 high-speed automatic applicator and the ALS 380 labelling head, ALS was able to produce a hybrid capable of achieving enhanced levels of speed, accuracy and reliability.
"The main application for the ALS machine is fixing forms to our own promotional material," Barry explains.
"We've used other machines in the past, but they didn't really meet our requirements for speed and accuracy and that's where ALS came in." Like many manufacturers, accurate label positioning is incredibly important to Denny Bros, especially if clear, concise and effective promotional material is to be achieved.
"When applying a Fix-a-Form label to a printed product," Barry notes, "it is essential that it's applied in exactly the right place.
In our case, we've got to get the label in the right position on the brochure so it sits properly with the design." The ALS 350/380 hybrid achieves a label-stop accuracy of +/-0.5mm, and is therefore ideally suited to meet the company's very precise application requirements.
What's more, it also matches Denny Bros's stipulation that the machine should be easily de-mounted so that it can be used at other locations around the factory.
Barry insists that the real benefit of the Fix-a-Form labels is that they can be applied using existing labelling machinery.
"The labels provide more space than conventional labels, but are just as easy to apply using machines such as ALS's label applicators, which can apply them at speed.".
