A high speed labelling head has enabled a manufacturer to increase the speed of its range of paper converting machines.

Advanced Labelling Systems has enabled Bridlington-based manufacturer Burton Engineering to increase the speed and reliability of its Omega range of paper converting machines with the help of the ALS 380 high-speed labelling head The compact design of the ALS 380, which makes extensive use of stainless steel and synthetic materials, provides extremely high levels of accuracy at dispensing speeds of up to 1,000 labels per minute

"We chose the ALS 380 for the Omega range of self-adhesive label inspection and rewinding machines because we were impressed with its high-quality construction," said Steve Jenkins, Engineering Design Manager at Burton Engineering.

"By including well made, high-quality products in our machines, we add considerable value to the products.

A well-built machine is sure to service our customers' needs for longer.

Our customers are interested in equipment that will run for the full shift; often 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the more reliable the machine, the less it will infringe on downtime." A typical application for Burton Engineering's Omega modular machine featuring the ALS 380 print head, is applying labels that are part of a package; soft packages of moistened tissues, for instance, where the label acts as a re-sealable 'lid'.

"The end-user is interested in the positional accuracy," explained Jenkins.

"What happens with lesser quality applicators is that as the speed increases, the accuracy decreases.

With the ALS 380, a higher degree of accuracy is possible at much higher speeds." In addition, the ALS 380 is equipped with missing label detection, web break detection and memory to store up to 16 product/label combinations; making it ideal for use on multi-product lines where speed and simplicity of changeover is essential.

So impressed has Jenkins been with the ease with which the labelling head is installed and the considerable value it has added to Burton Engineering's range of paper converters, that ALS are now the preferred supplier for all Omega modules fitted with label applicators.
