An in line labelling system uses a labelling head where a peel and reveal wraparound label is applied as close to the base of the product at a speed of 60 products a minute Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) based in Thame Oxfordshire,UK, have supplied an in line labelling system to Lubborn Cheese based in Chard, Somerset

Lubborn Cheese pioneered the craft of making Brie style cheeses in the country and is the leading mould ripened cheese manufacturer in the UK.

The ALS 230 labelling system is situated after the cheese wrapping station.

When the cheese leaves the wrapper it is passed onto a conveyor, also supplied by ALS as part of the labelling system, and moved to the ALS 230 labelling head where a peel and reveal wraparound label is applied as close to the base of the cheese as possible at a speed of 60 products a minute.

A peel and reveal label was chosen so that more information could be included on the label.

Once this label has been applied the angle at which the cheese is released is controlled so that it is always presented to the second label applicator, a top mounted air blow model, in the same orientation to apply the second label.

The air blow method was chosen due to the height differentials between products which can be as much as +/-20mm because the label obviously needs to be applied accurately every time.

After the top label and wraparound labels have been applied the cheese is turned through 180 degrees so the base of the cheese can be weigh labelled.

Dominic Mullan, General Manager says:" The driving force for this project was to create greater shelf impact in store and increase both consumer and retailer awareness of our award winning products. Request a free brochure from Advanced Labelling Systems (ALS) ...

The new peel and reveal wraparound label also allows us to provide more interesting information to our consumers including recipe suggestions".
