The Alfing Synchro two spindle horizontal machining centre is a new module for flexible manufacturing systems. The Alfing Synchro can double your production, says Alfing Kessler.

For many years development has been moving toward flexible production systems and away from rigid transfer lines This development requires new concepts

The Alfing Synchro two spindle horizontal machining centre is a new module for flexible manufacturing systems.

The Alfing Synchro can double your production, says Alfing Kessler Sondermaschinen.

The machine was exhibited at EMO, Hannover 2001 and created great interest among the many visitors to the Alfing stand.

The main feature of the new ' Synchro ' is the extensive use of modules and components from the now well established 2-Spindler machine series (this features two independent high-speed spindles, which because they are independent can reduce the cut-to-cut time to 1,0 sec.), thus all the major assemblies are already tried and tested in the field.

Designed to work primarily with light metals (aluminium, magnesium, etc) having a maximum spindle speed of 18,000 rev/min the Synchro is a new machine for the production of high volume components such as cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, clutch housings, etc.

There is also a heavy duty spindle version of the Synchro available for work with cast iron components.

The Synchro can be used singly or in combination, with gantry load/unload for a multitude of automatization options.

Because two components are produced each cycle the floor space requirements can be reduced by nearly 50% compared with single spindle machines, as well as additional savings in machine systems - electrics, hydraulics, central lube, etc.

As standard the Synchro can be fitted with Siemens 840 D control system.

Also planned for the future is to the possibility to use the Fanuc 160i control system.

The Double disc secant tool magazine optimises the space requirement for tool storage as well as offering simultaneous tool change for both spindles.

The two tool magazines are NC driven with direct positioning system.

The motor spindles used in both the Synchro and the 2-Spindler are well proven and reliable units, use a maintenance free bearing concept with oil-air lubrication and a contactless sealing system with pressurised air.

Axis drive uses digital drive technique and is dynamic with 1G acceleration.

Alfing offer a remote diagnostic facility with the Synchro and 2-Spindler machines which links their factory direct to the machines in the field.

Like all members of the Alfing 2-spindle family the Synchro can be combined without restriction with other elements in a production line, thus creating flexible production systems.

Buffer stocks between individual machines or machine groups improve the production flow and increase your output.

Load and unload gantries are easily integrated to facilitate total flexibility.

Other important options that can be provided include: Renishaw measuring probe, Balluff tool identification system, spindle and bearing monitoring, individual coolant filtration units, etc.
