Software checks for legislative systems
compliance
Software is helping a pharmaceutical manufacturer to re-evaluate electrical installations - having more than 36,000 HV and LV circuits - to comply with BS 7671 and the Electricity at Work Act.
Software from Amtech is helping GlaxoSmithKline to re-evaluate the electrical installations - which include more than 36,000 HV and LV circuits - at its Barnard Castle pharmaceutical manufacturing site in County Durham GlaxoSmithKline instigated the re-evaluation work under the guidance of Astley Fenwick, the Site Electrical Engineer, to demonstrate conclusively that all of the electrical installations on this large and complex site, some of which have been in use for many years, comply fully with the requirements of BS 7671 and the Electricity at Work Act

Additionally, the Amtech software used in the re-evaluation exercise is producing consistent and up-to-date documentation for GlaxoSmithKline's electrical systems, which will simplify maintenance work, and make future modifications and extensions easier and less costly.
GlaxoSmithKline is being supported in the collection and evaluation of data for the project by Teesside Automation Services (TAS), a company which specialises in providing electrical and mechanical support services for blue-chip clients in the UK and overseas.
Amtech products in use on this major project include Cablemaster, a BS 7671system design and verification package; Protect HV, which offers protection study and device selection facilities for HV, MV and LV networks; and the FastTest BS 7671 test and inspection package.

Powerful new Electrical Software for 2005
Amtech Power Software has released the new 2005 version of its Electrical Software.
GlaxoSmithKline's Astley Fenwick, who played the key role in devising and formulating the project, said, "We have been very pleased with the results produced by the Amtech software.
It offers an efficient method for collecting and evaluating data, and produces concise, accurate records which will be of great value in the future." John Easton, Senior Project Engineer at TAS is also favourably impressed by the Amtech products.
"One of the key benefits of Amtech software is that it has obviously been designed by electrical engineers," he said.
"As a result, it works in a logical and straightforward way, which makes it very easy to learn and use, even in large and complex projects, such as the GlaxoSmithKline re-evaluation exercise." "It is no exaggeration to say that the software is the key to this project," continued Easton, "and, in fact, it is difficult to envisage a way of carrying out the necessary work cost-effectively without it." Working under the guidance of GlaxoSmithKline's engineering team, TAS collects data for entry into the Amtech packages by site survey, and by reference to existing records.
The graphical interface used by the software, which allows users to enter information simply by clicking on the relevant section of an on-screen schematic diagram, and the integral database of manufacturers' product information for components such as circuit breakers, have been found by TAS to make data entry straightforward, fast and certain.
When data entry is complete, the Amtech products are used to evaluate the various installations, and to generate reports showing areas which may need further investigation or attention.
The software also produces circuit charts and schematic diagrams for record purposes, and the availability of detailed plant information in digital form means that these records can be updated easily and inexpensively, as often as is necessary.
Amtech is the UK's leading developer of software products designed specifically for the electrical industry.
The company's products are developed in-house, and include programs for electrical design, protection calculations, test and inspection applications, and for interior lighting design.
Committed to innovation, product quality and customer service, Amtech holds BS EN ISO 9001 TickIT accreditation for customer support services and software development activities. Request a free brochure from Amtech Power Software ...
