Australian designer and manufacturer of high-technology CNC grinding machines, ANCA, will invest A$4 million in Australia and has opened its first overseas manufacturing facility in Thailand.

ANCA Pty, the world's leading designer and manufacturer of high-technology CNC grinding machines, will invest A$4 million in Australia and has officially opened its first overseas manufacturing facility, located in the Rayong province of Thailand These investments are part of a strategic plan to enable the ANCA to continue its phenomenal 30% year-on-year production growth rate

Dignitaries participating in the Thailand opening included the Australian ambassador in Thailand, His Excellency William Paterson, and the deputy secretary general of the Thailand Board of Investment, Khun Sudjit Inthaiwong.

* Strategic manufacturing plan - s a leading designer and manufacturer of complete high precision CNC grinding machines, ANCA provides solutions for global customers wanting to manufacture high precision cutting tools, medical implants, gears, punches or components for special applications such as turbine blades for jet engines or the femoral implant for an artificial knee joint.

ANCA is currently exporting more than 98% of production from its facilities located in the Melbourne suburb of Bayswater North to customers located around the world, and has exported more than A$500 million in the last 6 years.

Due to a recurring 30% year-on-year annual growth rate for the past few years, ANCA has had to refocus on its global resources and take a strategic look at the processes completed in Australia.

ANCA has chosen to invest in growing and expanding the highly skilled technical operations in Australia, while simultaneously producing some of the less technical assemblies overseas while maintaining the same high levels of technology and quality required by its global customer base.

"This will be a win/win for both Australia and Thailand and will allow ANCA to continue to increase production of finished machines in Australia to satisfy a growing global need," said group general manager Linsey Siede.

"The facility in Thailand is currently manufacturing and exporting fully-wired electrical cabinets and canopies to Australia for the high tech grinding machines that ANCA builds in Melbourne," said Siede.

As a result of these expansion plans, ANCA conducted a study in 2005 to select the location of their first overseas manufacturing facility.

A number of important factors had to be taken into account in determining the optimum location for setting up manufacturing facilities, including shortages and/or availability of resources and materials, infrastructure, utilities, logistics, and many others.

All of these separate but inter-linked variables were taken into consideration when determining the highest value-adding and most cost effective manufacturing strategy suited to the company's product range.

"The process used by ANCA to determine the location our first manufacturing facility outside of Australia was very comprehensive, and took into account all of these factors, and more.

At the end of this process, Thailand won the selection for a number of strategic reasons including a long history of stability, a culture of openness, honesty and respect, a hard working and knowledgeable workforce, excellent infrastructure, and a government that warmly and openly encouraged overseas investment," said Siede.

ANCA will manufacture a number of sub-assemblies in the Thailand facility, which will then be exported to Australia for final assembly into the completed machines.

ANCA Thailand is strategically located within the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate near the deep sea port of Laem Chabang, which is critical for efficient transportation and shipment of the goods.
