Polymer combined with PTFE in cylinder head gasket
German manufacturer STE has developed a new cylinder head gasket using a powder coating process that combines Victrex Peek polymer and PTFE.
Its outstanding mechanical properties and processability make it an excellent substitute for metals and thermosets in a wide range of aerospace, offshore, medical and industrial applications.
Victrex Peek polymer is available in several viscosities including standard, medium and very low.
Standard and medium grades are ideally suited for highly-filled composites where the low viscosity grade enables better dispersion and/or wetting of tape or fabric composite forms.

Composite flow moulding strengthens polymers
Composite Flow Moulding, CFM, is an innovative process for manufacturing endless fibre reinforced components with superior strength.
These composite forms are engineered to provide optimum impregnation of the reinforcing fibers and fiber-matrix interface.
Victrex Peek composites can withstand continuous operating temperatures of up to 260C (500degF) in low stress applications, and 120C (248degF) wet in aerospace structural applications.
Key features include excellent thermal stability and low coefficient of expansion, abrasion resistance, low smoke and toxic gas emission, excellent stiffness and density as well as excellent hydrolysis, corrosion, chemical and radiation resistance.
Victrex partners with leading composite manufacturers to produce a variety of composite forms including: dry fabrics, multi-axial fabrics, braid, tow, unidirectional tape, unidirectional sheet and consolidated fabric.
Victrex also works directly with end users as part of a special development program to ensure that end users achieve the best possible performance from the Victrex Peek composite.
Victrex provides technical support in the form of prototyping, design and commercialization assistance for single projects at pre-preg manufacturing operations and at end user consolidation plants.
Victrex Peek composites have an indefinite shelf life and can be stored at ambient conditions.
Produced in a solvent-free working environment, Victrex Peek has a very stable melt and offers a wide processing window [between 360C (680degF) and 400C (752degF)].
Victrex Peek composites are compatible with a wide range of rapid, automated and economical fabrication processes including: compression molding, roll forming, thermoforming and stamping, pultrusion, filament winding, autoclave and vacuum bag molding, diaphragm forming; and bladder inflation molding.
