Simulation technology specialist, Applied Computing and Engineering announces 'CMM Simulator', program verification and simulation system for testing Zeiss CMMs

Simulation technology specialist, Applied Computing and Engineering announces 'CMM Simulator', program verification and simulation system for testing Zeiss co-ordinate measurement machine inspection programs ahead of their implementation Developed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss Measurement Systems, cmm Simulator provides full 3D simulation of the co-ordinate measurement machine (CMM), reducing the program verification time and increasing CMM productivity by speeding up the development of metrology inspection regimes

CMMs are highly accurate machines that require careful programming to give best performance.

Cmm Simulator will give Zeiss CMM users an intuitive 3D environment that simulates the detailed operation of the CMM.

Smooth in operation and accurately reflecting CMM commands, cmm Simulator allows users to develop and improve programs efficiently, without taking their CMM out of service for this all-important inspection 'test' phase.

"In many cases CMMs are taken out of production for days, and sometimes weeks, to program the inspection of a complex part.

Cmm Simulator will allow companies to continue using their Zeiss CMMs while testing new programs offline on a PC.

This allows engineers to identify inspection errors early on in the process, and correct them before using the inspection program during production," says Stewart Allinson, managing director, Applied Computing and Engineering.

The cmm Simulator simulation software runs on a PC and simulates appropriate Zeiss CMMs.

It accepts Holos generated programmes and responds as if it were the actual CMM.

Holometric have agreed to work closely with AC and E to test the capability and performance of cmm Simulator.

Managing Director of Holometric, Mr Kleindienst said, "We like the concept of CMM Simulator and we are helping prove the robustness and technical performance of the software during the pre-launch phase.

We think this package has been well thought out, and will be of immediate benefit to our customers, offering a very high standard of visual programme verification." Cmm Simulator in addition to its highly visual approach, can generate interactive 3D movies to demonstrate the inspection process to colleagues and customers.

Cmm Simulator is built on proven simulation technology, and has been refined with advice and suggestions from Carl Zeiss Measurement Systems, to produce a fast GUI and an accurate command set definition.

It has a pedigree based on AC and E's well-established SoftMachine technology which has been successfully deployed in the aerospace sector where highly accurate simulations and programme verifications are essential.

An important objective in defining cmm Simulator's capability included a highly visual interface that would be a pleasure to use.

CMM Simulator will be available for Zeiss customers who want to get more out of their valuable equipment, and who seek to exploit the use of simulation technology to release the real CMM for part inspections, rather than checking and testing out new programmes.
