A lean manufacturing book for the supplier is a 'how-to' publication to help suppliers meet the demands of their customers while creating their own efficient production system.

A lean manufacturing book for the supplier? What a novel concept! But this isn't a novel; it's a how-to book specifically for suppliers who are being told to "go lean or else" by their customers This new book from Productivity Press, Equalized and Synchronized Production: The High-Mix Manufacturing System that Moves beyond JIT, describes a new production system designed specifically for suppliers

Most books written on supply chain management for lean manufacturing are written from the point of view of "how to get your supplier on board." Equalized and Synchronized Production looks at it from the supplier who has multiple customers trying to "get them on board." These suppliers are faced with the daunting task of coordinating and delivering their shipments according to the JIT (just-in-time) production needs of multiple production facilities belonging to several different end buyers.

This book will help suppliers meet the demands of their customers while creating their own efficient production system, the Equalized and Synchronized Production System.

The Equalized and Synchronized Production System (ESP) was developed by Toshiki Naruse and Japan Management Association Consulting (JMAC) for suppliers who need to meet the demands of their customers' different JIT timetables.

ESP is a production management and manufacturing improvement system targeted for supplier companies, or any companies, that deal with a variety of products as well as multiple customers.

The ESP Production System was born in 1985 as a result of a JMAC consulting project for an automotive electrical components manufacturer that was serving several automobile manufacturers at their respective production facilities.

Each of these buyers required this supplier to meet its particular JIT production timetable.

Naruse and the other consultants at JMAC became convinced that the best type of production system for suppliers was one that emphasized the concept of synchronization and incorporated the concept of equalization.

A traditional JIT system operates under the principle of synchronization.

Useful for end buyers, the JIT manufacturing system is not necessarily useful for suppliers that supply parts and materials to these types of buyers.

What is unique about ESP is that it takes synchronization and builds the concept of equalization on top of it.

ESP frees suppliers from having their production schedule directly linked to client delivery requirements.

ESP enables these suppliers to meet the requirements of their customers' JIT ordering systems through wide-variety, small-lot production, while also making their own production activities as efficient as possible.

Equalized and Synchronized Production covers this new production system from a case study of its creation in Japan to the "how-to implement" details that suppliers need.

Readers will learn the "six guarantees" of the ESP Production System, basic steps in implementing ESP, and ESP building steps and techniques.

Additional case studies make up the last four chapters of the book.

The authors also offer guidance on when and where the ESP system is more effective than JIT and detail the benefits suppliers will experience when they replace their JIT manufacturing system with ESP.

The book will help companies recognize the value of the ESP Production System and assist them in implementing it in their own plant.

This book is for anyone who manufacturers and ships products to more than one customer or anyone who has found that JIT is not suited for their manufacturing environment.

Equalized and Synchronized Production is available through American Technical Publishers at GBP 44.00.
