PC Enclosures Safeguard Production
PC Enclosures Safeguard Production at Key Johnson Matthey Site
Surge-protected PC enclosures supplied by Armagard minimised the damage and disruption caused by a recent electrical spike at a Johnson Matthey facility.
Johnson Matthey uses PC-driven Weighing Stations in its Precious Metal Refining Evaluation department.
The weighing stations - comprising a standard PC, touchscreen monitor and thermal label printer - are mission-critical.
If they stop, production stops.
The department operates 24 hours a day to very tight deadlines so computer downtime can cause serious disruption.
To maintain the integrity of these systems in a very rigorous environment, Johnson Matthey uses Armagard All-In-One PC Enclosures.
The enclosures keep the equipment dry, dust-free, secure and within the optimum temperature range.
The enclosures are fitted, as standard, with a surge-protected four-way mains distribution adapter which accommodates the PC, screen and printer.
Recently, a powerful spike in the plant electricity supply caused irrepairable damage to three weighing stations that were not surge protected.
Replacement equipment cost ?6,300.
However, seven weighing systems installed in the surge-protected Armagard enclosures survived the spike - saving Johnson Matthey 14,700 pounds in replacement costs.
Furthermore, two of the failed weighing stations were offline for a day whilst the third could not be replaced for 12 days.
The cost of this downtime in terms of production delays and customer service could not be quantified but was described as "significant".
