Improving reliability in direct plastics
screwing
The asymmetric thread profile of screw for fibre-reinforced plastics optimises the material flow of the formed thread, and achieves a completely supported thread along shank length.
With the ever increasing use of plastics for both technical and economic reasons, more and more significance is being placed on the need for a cost effective and process-reliable method of fixing This trend has brought new demands for the screws that have to be used, particularly in the area of fibre reinforced materials

Thread forming screws make assembly easier
Thread forming screw geometry allows the mating material to flow much easier and closer to the core of the screw, at a much reduced installation torque and giving an improved clamping force.
It has driven the need for the development of new thread geometries which are able to offer a process-reliable assembly and Arnold Umformtechnik have met this challenge with their Remform screw for plastics.
The asymmetric thread profile of the Arnold Remform screw optimises the material flow of the formed plastic thread, due to the asymmetrical thread geometry leading the forces which appear during installation into the appropriate direction, and achieving a completely supported thread on the whole length of the screw.
The improved flow of material is due to the leading thread flank having a radius.
It allows the material to flow as deeply as possible into the core of the diameter and the steeper side of the flank (which points towards the head), gathering material, which has been displaced in axial direction.
It therefore allows a much bigger thread engagement, which gives high pull-out loads.
This thread geometry also offers much reduced radial stresses, (which can burst bosses) very low thread forming torque and high failure torque giving the user a process-reliable assembly.
In recent years Arnold Umformtechnik from Germany has become the development partner for joining technology.
