Valves improve dust collector efficiency

A redesigned range of dust collection valves offer faster opening and closing times with less noise for improved dust collection and also a substantial reduction in overall valve size.

ASCO Joucomatic is improving the efficiency of Dust Collector systems with its new, redesigned range of Power Pulse dust collection valves Available in sizes from 3/4in to 1in, the new valves offer faster opening and closing times with less noise for improved dust collection; and also a substantial reduction in overall valve size, to aid integration into OEM dust collector systems

Key to the improved efficiency of the Series 353/800 Power Pulse valves is a new, patented, piston cartridge.

This reduces substantially the stroke volume that needs to be exhausted through the pilot of a conventional diaphragm dust collector valve.

The problem with a large volume is that it results in slower opening and closing of the valve, which reduces its peak performance and causes uneconomical use of compressed air.

In addition, the decompression of exhaust air from a large volume creates excessive noise during valve operation.

By reducing the stroke volume, Power Pulse valves are able to deliver faster opening and closing times and longer operating life.

Moreover, the combination of the piston cartridge with a new design of valve bonnet achieves substantial reductions in noise during operation.

The integral bonnet has been constructed with an expansion chamber into which pressurised air expands.

The effect of this is to reduce the air to a lower value, one that generates less noise when exhausting to atmosphere than conventional dust collector designs.

In addition to providing fast operating and low noise operation, the piston cartridge design also offers the benefits of reduced valve size, and the options of internal exhaust and high temperature operation.

The reduction in valve size, achieved without affecting flow performance, is a real benefit to OEMs building Power Pulse valves into their own tank systems.

The internal exhaust option will also appeal to OEMs and users in applications where there is a possibility of dirt build-up blocking the valve silencer.

In these applications the two-piece design of the piston cartridge, consisting of one moving and one solid fixed part, makes it possible, to exhaust pilot air directly into the outlet port of the Power Pulse valve.

To get the best results from this option the valves are designed with an integral venting tube.

The final design benefit of the piston cartridge is the facility for continuous high temperature operation.

The standard material of manufacture for the cartridge is Polyacetal (POM), which facilitates operation up to 850C; however, with the option of a high temperature Polyamide piston continuous operation up to1500 deg C is provided, with an absolute maximum of up to 1800 deg C.

Complementing the many operating advantages of the new Power Pulse range is the fast installation benefits of ASCO Joucomatic's redesigned Quick Mount connection system.

Quick Mount eliminates the time-consuming, thread-cutting and sealing to the blow-pipe experienced with conventional dust pulse valves; it also costs less and is more effective than compression-fitting methods.

Now, with the 353/800 Power Pulse Range, Quick Mount has been modified to provide the user with increased installation benefits.

The system now integrates an ant-rotation clamp that fits into a slot in the body of the Power Pulse valve, preventing it from rotating after assembly.

The flexibility of the Power Pulse valves to operate in a wide variety of operating environments is enhanced by the range of coil options available.

As standard, the valves employ high quality F-class epoxy moulded coils; however, the user also has the option of waterproof solenoids, and also explosion proof coils conforming to the ATEX directive 94/9/EC for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (gas and dust).

ASCO Joucomatic is offering the Power Pulse valves as discrete components for integration into OEM dust collection systems, or, from the first quarter of 2006- when the larger 1.1/2in Power Pulse valve will also be available - as part of a fully immersed tank system.

An updating of ASCO Joucomatic's present offering, the new tank system will provide quicker response, higher rates of flow and a neater package for dust collector installations.

By providing a fully certified package conforming to the European Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EEC, it will overcome the problem of CE certification for OEM's who traditionally build their own tank systems.

However, for applications where a fully assembled system is not required, ASCO Joucomatic offers the Power Pulse valves backed up by a full range of complementary products for complete dust collector control.

These include sequential controllers, pilot valves and pilot boxes, pressure differential modules and air preparation equipment. Request a free brochure from Asco Numatics ...
