An innovative Twin Tape Feeder from Assembleon sets a new standard in optimised, efficient and intelligent tape feeding.
The unique feeder design, based on Dual Tape Single Slot (DTSST) technology, enables the user to increase 8mm SMD tape component part numbers on Assembleon machines.
By increasing available tape feeder positions to 160, it delivers a 60 to 70 percent tape capacity boost on the industry-standard FCM Multiflex chipshooter and the most powerful multifunction machine for the medium-volume SMT industry, the Topaz-XiII.
The Twin Tape Feeder is available on new installations and is easily introduced onto existing machines with no change to the feeder interface.
The increase in component density is achieved by overlapping the tapes, making use of the overhead reserved for the tape indexing mechanism, for highly efficient component feeding.
The new Twin Tape Feeder is also fully intelligent, answering manufacturers' demands for zero-error set-up and traceability.
The availability of additional tapes bringing important benefits to users of Multiflex and Topaz-XiII machines.
For example, the new feeder technology will support lean manufacturing by enabling users to fulfil their placement requirement with the highest output on the smallest footprint.
The availability of additional lanes allows the user to improve component balancing, even further extending the placement efficiency of the Multiflex and lowering cycle times.

The Twin Tape Feeder supports reels up to 13inch, all known tape and cover tape materials, 2mm and 4mm indexes, and components down to 0201.
Integrated intelligence provides for zero-error set-up, programmable index settings, lot traceability, internal diagnostics, empty-reel advanced warning and repair history, and is splice detection prepared.
