Low cost packaging void filling makes no mess
A desktop packaging void-fill system is claimed to be fast and easy-to-use, providing protective air-filled cushions at a rate of 15 linear metres per minute.
The company approached packaging specialists, Automated Packaging Systems, who recommended the trial of an Autobag 'Excel'/P1-4000 print/pack system.
Amphenol's Martin Howard said: "We originally wanted a system where the bag was presented in an open format so the components could simply be dropped in." Exhaustive tests proved that Autobag could do the job but also confirmed the equipment's capability to significantly reduce costs and improve the efficiency of the packaging section.
The company's logo and full identification of contents, including part description, item number, date and bar code, were printed as part of the total packaging process, eliminating the need and cost of separate overprinting.
Martin Howard concluded: "The quantifiable savings to Amphenol were 30 per cent as labelling operations were eliminated and packaging rates increased.
Using Autobag bags-on-a-roll and equipment meant less material wastage, reduction of resources, improved productivity and reduced processing time." Importantly, Amphenol also achieved a much improved look, better finished and presented bags and was able to satisfy specific customer requirements.
