'Print and pack' ups productivity by 90%
It used to take a packer about 45s to pack, seal and label a product, now with a 'print and pack' system the same person can do it in less than 2s, reports a power tool manufacturer.

Capable of packing five times faster than by hand the Excel/Precision system is a high productivity packaging system, which reduces costs by eliminating the need for a separate labelling process.
Hiretechs Autobag equipment utilises bags which are clear on one side for a view of the product and white on the other side, to allow variable information to be overprinted directly onto the bag, including barcodes and graphics.
Various bag sizes are compatible with the machine ranging from 75mm by 75mm to 265mm by 550mm Hiretech has found the system to be highly efficient.
The product is picked, packed and labelled on the shop floor in considerably less time than before and to the required standard.
"It used to take our packer about 45 seconds to pack, seal and label the product, now the same person can do it in less than 2 seconds.
A batch of a 1000 that used to take 12 hours is now completed within an hour," added Putta.
Many benefits have been witnessed since the improvements in the packaging operations at Hiretech.
The lead time has been decreased from four weeks to ten days, resulting in orders being met at a quicker rate, improved customer service and an improvement on customer perception, as well as satisfying last minute or large orders without causing delays or backlogs.
"This has been quite a turn around for us, the quality, professionalism and flexibility were our reasons for choosing Autobag.
We didn't really consider the impact it would have on our packaging operation.
It was one of those nice surprises," commented Putta.
