Modern bagging overcame stationery bottleneck
When Xertrex, a stationery manufacturer based in Illinois, USA, wanted to improve the image of its packaging and speed up its packaging processes it turned to Automated Packaging Systems.
Until recently OEM Automation were using two heat sealers and one labelling machine to bag their components.
This process was laborious and time consuming and often led to a backlog of orders waiting to be bagged, as well as requiring full-time operatives to manually fill the bags, seal them and attach labels.
The solution lay in Automated Packaging Systems' Autobag AB 180 bagger combined with a PI 412c Printer bagging system which replaced the customer's previous two-step heat sealing and labelling process and reduced the manual requirement.
"Since installing the AB 180 we have made significant cost savings in terms of time and labour.
Deadlines are much easier and more cost-effective to meet and the new bagging and printing system has had a positive impact on our productivity," said Adam Parkin, OEM Automation warehouse manager.
The AB 180 system is fast, flexible and easy-to-use.
A sectionalised tray on the machine allows components to slide down a slot into the funnel and then into the bag, which means loading bags with mixed and various components is quick and easy.
Three different size bags are used to suit the various component ranges, bag change overs are straightforward and take less than 2 minutes, and printing is an integral part of the bagging process.
Product runs vary from 10 to 2,000 pieces and the AB180 allows for this flexibility.
Commenting on the installation, Adam Parkin continued, "We have estimated that the machine will have paid for itself within 12 to 18 months from labour cost savings alone.
The AB 180 also provides a more professional finish to our bagged products and gives our business a whole new selling feature." The AB 180 combined with PI 412c provides the integrated 'Print and Pack' system supplied by Automated Packaging Systems.
The PI 412c provides high quality, in-line printing for optimum packaging productivity.
This programmable thermal-transfer printing system provides high resolution printing, resulting in clear and high impact labels to include barcodes, graphics and variable text. Request a free brochure from Automated Packaging Systems ...
