"This makes it easier for the client to visualise how the building will ultimately look and to immediately grasp what we are proposing to do for them." Another key benefit is the Autodesk Revit parametric change engine, which automatically co-ordinates changes made anywhere in model views, drawing sheets, schedules, sections or plans.
This will enable Severfield-Reeves Projects' architects to focus on creating more accurate designs, and yet still complete projects within a far quicker timescale.
Because all changes are reflected instantaneously in the main model, multiple users can work simultaneously.
According to Richard Attwood, Severfield-Reeves Projects' chief architect: "Having all the information in one place also eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming duplication of work, re-keying in details from one system directly into another".
"For example, Revit allows you to extract various details from the 3D image within the one system.
This enables you to tightly control the whole development process and give the customer a full picture of the project progress and exactly what they are getting for their money." Users also derive added efficiencies from the fact that Autodesk Revit supports all phases of the building process from beginning to end.
The same model that is rendered in design generates quantities exported to an estimating database after construction documents are prepared and nothing is lost.
Autodesk business partner, Quadra Solutions, has installed the system at Severfield-Reeves Projects' headquarters and is currently training eight key company staff, the majority of whom have never before used 3D.
"Despite its lack of previous experience with this type of technology, we have been impressed with the enthusiasm and skill the Severfield-Reeves team has displayed in rapidly mastering Autodesk Revit," said Quadra Solutions' Karl Dobson.
"We look forward to continuing to work in close partnership to ensure Severfield-Reeves Projects maximises its competitive advantage from deploying Revit." The new solution is already being used commercially in a project preparation role.
