Avenue Mould Solutions' Andrew Hodson is celebrating his recent success at being the very first person in the UK and Ireland to have achieved Moldflow Silver Level Accreditation.

Avenue Mould Solutions' analyst Andrew Hodson is celebrating his recent success at being the very first person in the UK and Ireland to have achieved Moldflow Silver Level Accreditation The Sligo, Ireland-based company is a dedicated single source solution provider to the medical device and pharmaceutical sector and specialises in the design, manufacture and validation of multi-cavity injection moulds for high volume applications for companies such as Bausch and Lomb, Becton Dickenson, Smiths Medical and Tyco Healthcare

In order to provide the high accuracy and attention to detail that this sector demands Avenue operates a continuing programme of investment not only in the most advanced technology but also in 'leading-edge' software.

This includes products and services from Moldflow, the premier global provider of design-to-manufacturing solutions which address part and mold design issues early in the design process, so helping to maximise both productivity and profitability on the shopfloor.

Avenue was one of the first companies in Ireland to acquire Moldflow, back in 1992, and therefore have 14 years experience of using the software.

Well aware that technology alone is never enough, Avenue naturally also invests significantly in training for its staff - ensuring that all the potential benefits of the technology are harnessed to the benefit of its customers.

It is this dedication to training that has enabled analyst Hodson, who started with the company in 1997 as a toolmaking apprentice, to become the first person in the UK and Ireland to be awarded the prestigious Moldflow Silver Level accreditation.

Hodson, who also has a Certificate in Polymer Technology, is currently studying for a Diploma in Design Innovation with the Open University.

His skills, which combine 'hands-on' toolmaking with a real intuitive 'feel' for mouldmaking engineering, enhanced by in-depth tuition from Moldflow, enabled him to achieve the challenging 80% pass mark in the assessments he undertook at Moldflow's UK facility in Orpington.

The Moldflow Centre for Professional Development (MCPD) certification programme for Moldflow Plastics Insight offers three levels of certification: Bronze, Silver and Gold, to individual users such as Andrew.

The assessments are undertaken after the candidates have not only successfully completed the training, but have also become proficient users of the products in practice.

Where the Bronze Level accreditation, which Andrew had already achieved, certifies proficiency, the Silver Level signifies significantly more advanced knowledge and understanding.

With this success under his belt Hodson is now working towards Gold Certification, which signifies the very highest level of skill.

Avenue Mould Systems, which already utilises the MPI/Flow and MPI/Cool modules from Moldflow, has recently 'completed the triple' with the purchase of MPI/Warp Simulation, the third major module, which will make Avenue Mould Solutions eligible for the ultra-prestigious Moldflow Company Certification - proving yet again that this Irish company is able to offer its global customers truly world class skills.
