Avery Dennison has launched MicroPin, its latest fastening product that is designed to revolutionise the packaging and display of men's formal shirts and other folded garments.

MicroPin is used by simply hooking the handtool's chrome nose around the folded garment and inserting a discreet plastic T-End Microfastener, available in white or black, through the layers of fabric - at the points usually held together by metal pins.

The result is a beautifully presented garment, with perfectly placed folds and tucks that is securely packaged and ready for the shopfloor.

Retailers are able to relax, knowing goods are void of metal pins, plastic jet clips or materials that are capable of damaging fabric or injuring staff and customers; employees no longer need wrap medical tape on their fingertips for protection against sharp points when securing folds and inserting tucks; packagers and manufacturers experience a rise in productivity and profitability, as MicroPin allows for fast garment fastening; and consumers are no longer required to be extra cautious when removing metal pins from their purchase because Microfasteners literally 'pop' off with a gentle tug.

Mike Back, marketing manager for Avery Dennison Fastener Europe, said: "A man's dress shirt can be packaged with anything from four to ten pins and, when you consider that around a billion shirts are produced for sale each year in the USA and Europe, the number of pins used is staggering".

As the global leader of high quality tags, fasteners and installation tools for the packaging, textile and merchandising industries, Avery Dennison was uniquely positioned to design this favourable alternative to metal pins and clips.

The product concept was developed in partnership with major brand owners and dress shirt manufacturers and has already been approved for use by some of the retailing industry's largest companies.

"The Avery Dennison brand name is synonymous with quality and MicroPin, like all of our products, is an inexpensive, durable, easy to use product that is designed to encourage productivity and creativity - as well as enhancing consumer and staff safety," said Mr Back.

MicroPin is suitable to use with a wide variety of fabrics and can be used to fulfill a range of retail functions such as attaching sales tickets and fastening fabrics in place for visual merchandising purposes.

Store personnel can employ the tool to easily repackage items on the shop floor, should customers prefer to unfold and try on garments before purchasing.

Avery Dennison Fastener Europe is based in the UK and, as well as European countries, includes the Middle East and Africa in its key trade territories.

Its customers include some of the most influential brand names and recognised manufacturers, retailers and distributors in the world today.
