Theory Meets Practice In 'Structured'
Co-Operation

Two Stockport based companies with complementary skills in structural measurement and analysis have formed a working partnership, aimed at providing an unrivalled service for their clients AV Technology are specialists in the on-site measurement and analysis of structural data, while Wilde FEA are experts in the finite element analysis (FEA) of all types of structural and other 'physics' problems, including the supply of the internationally recognised Ansys software suite

Both companies have proven track records and operate to ISO 9001 Quality Assurance standards.

AV Technology was founded 28 years ago and is now a part of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies: Wilde FEA Is a member of the Wilde Group, founded 24 years ago.

AVT's Neil Parkinson is clear on the benefits of the arrangement: "The collaboration between the two companies gives us instant access to experts in adjacent specialised fields.

From the outset, without any investment in training or software, we have immediate access to highly professional and experienced FEA engineers, mirrored with reciprocal benefits for Wilde FEA.

On-site measurements and FEA modelling go hand in hand: measurements taken in the field can be used to validate FEA models and support the assumptions made in the modelling process.

Whereas measured data can very easily quantify the structural behaviour of a complex structure, the data is restricted to actual existing structures.

Once validated, these FEA models can be used to predict the effects of future structural modifications and repairs or to assess the consequences of damage.

FEA can also increase the effectiveness of on-site measurements by optimising the positions for data measurements, in particular the placing of strain gauges." David Deakin of Wilde FEA is equally upbeat about the co-operation: "This is truly a two way partnership.

Combining FEA and structural measurement is a powerful marriage of disciplines enabling both parties to benefit from increased accuracy and applicability.

AVT's measurements will give precise information at discrete points whereas FEA will provide results throughout the structure to give an overall picture of performance.

This will allow us to provide our clients with a clear and accurate three-dimensional picture of the behaviour of their products and equipment. Request a free brochure from AV Technology ...

Predictive fatigue analysis can dramatically reduce premature failure and modern analysis methods are increasingly being used to provide comprehensive product life expectancy data.".
